NO RESERVATIONS

The anti-reservation movement currently sweeping India is ,on balance , completely justified. So much (and increasing) reservation of seats in centres of higher learning for so long is sure to turn the country into a mediocre nation, in the knowledge field.

Those responsible for teaching in IIT's ,IIM's and higher Medical Institutes are no doubt aware of the difficulties of maintaining high standards of teaching and evaluation of groups containing large differences of intellectual capabilities.Increasing the reserved quota will further aggravate the situation and bring down over all standards.India's reputation will suffer.

The only affirmative action justified in higher institutes is to give preference to candidates from weaker sections when other things are equal.

The empowerment and upward mobility of backward sections must be achieved by other means like encouraging students at school level and by a liberal dose of monetary incentives including generous scholarships.

The above should be clear to all those who take decisions in this important matter.Unfortunately political factors enter pulling the country back by those who are charged with the responsibility of giving the country an upward push.

The above should be clear to those charged with taking important decisions concerning higher education.Unfortunately politics enters pulling the country downwards by those whose responsibility it is to give this country a big upward push.
